Journalist rules out move to Ligue 1 club for Spurs midfielder this summer

Telefoot journalist, Julien Maynard, has dismissed suggestions that Tanguy Ndombele could return to Lyon as a part of a deal to bring Houssem Aouar to Tottenham.

Aouar is rumoured to be on the radars of both Tottenham and Arsenal this transfer window.

It was previously suggested that Spurs have a strong relationship with Lyon after their purchase of Ndombele in 2019 and that this could work in the Lilywhites’ favour in their pursuit of Aouar.

ESPN then claimed on Friday that Tottenham had offered Lyon the chance to re-sign Ndombele in exchange for Aouar.

The report suggested that the Ligue 1 club were keen to cash in on the 23-year-old but had not given a formal response to Tottenham’s proposal.

However, Maynard has ruled out the chances of Ndombele returning to his former stomping ground. While the journalist did back up the interest of the two North London clubs in Aouar, he insisted that neither club have made an official offer for the midfielder.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect most Spurs fans will be pleased that Maynard has ruled out the chances of Ndombele rejoining Lyon. While the 24-year-old has not managed to deliver the goods so far since arriving at Spurs, his ability is there for all to see.

However, one does get the feeling that this season could be a make or break for the midfielder. He needs to show more than just glimpses of quality and start taking games by the scruff of the neck.
