Journalist says club want ‘crazy offer’ to let 20-year-old join Tottenham

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has said in his column on Football Insider that Tottenham Hotspur would find it quite difficult to get a deal for Johan Bakayoko over the line in January.

Bakayoko has quickly emerged as one of the best young attacking talents in European football over the last 18 months, with the winger catching the eye in both the Eredivisie and the Champions League this season.

Over the last couple of weeks, Spurs Web has relayed multiple reports which have backed Tottenham to compete with Brentford for the Belgian international’s signature in January (Sky Sports).

A couple of days ago, 90 min claimed that Liverpool were also set to enter the race for the 20-year-old, with the Reds alleged to have identified the player as a potential successor to Mohamed Salah.

Bakayoko transfer not straight-forward for Spurs

O’Rourke has now backed up Brentford’s and Tottenham’s interest in Bakayoko, while also adding that the winger is ‘in huge demand across Europe’.

However, he says that it will be ‘a hard deal’ for either London club to do in January as PSV are in a ‘strong position’ to keep the player, having advanced to the latter stages of the Champions League.

The journalist asserts that the Eredivisie side are ‘highly unlikely’ to sell Bakayoko next month unless they receive a ‘crazy offer’.

Spurs Web Opinion

All indications are that the move for Bakayoko is more likely next summer rather than in January. However, if Spurs want to steal a march on other suitors, they would have to move for the winger next month, which would mean paying a premium.
