Journalist says England international remains a top target for Spurs in January

Journalist Ryan Taylor has said that Tottenham Hotspur are not prepared to give up on their pursuit of Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.

It has been widely reported over the last couple of weeks that signing a centre-back is one of Ange Postecoglou’s priorities during the January transfer window (90 min).

GiveMeSport claimed last month that Guehi is one of four defenders on Tottenham’s shortlist alongside Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly, Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Ko Itakura.

However, the outlet added that Spurs know Palace’s asking price for the England international would be ‘sky-high’.

Tottenham are still keen on signing Marc Guehi

Tottenham’s interest in Guehi was also subsequently backed up by The Standard, who claimed last week that despite the Lilywhites’ keenness to sign the centre-back, the Eagles do not plan on letting him leave mid-season.

Taylor has become the latest journalist to talk up the chances of Spurs making a move for Chelsea academy graduate in January.

The Daily Express reporter told Spurs Chat Podcast: “Another name that you haven’t mentioned is Marc Guehi. From what I understand he is one of the leading centre-back targets.

“It’s pretty obvious that Palace are not going to give him up without demanding an excessive fee, however, he’s really appreciated by Spurs.

“Obviously, Johan Lange has just come in now, but I think Guehi’s a player that’s been tracked by Tottenham for some time now. He was really appreciated by Paratici, who is of course still involved with the club on a consultancy basis I believe.”

Tottenham would likely have to shatter their transfer record to have a shot at signing Guehi in January. All indications are that the 23-year-old will stay at Palace until the end of the season and there will be a bidding war for his services next summer.
