Journalist says he ‘would be stunned’ if Spurs do not push hard for transfer target

Football.London‘s Alasdair Gold remains confident that Tottenham will land Chelsea star Willian this summer due to the Brazilian’s relationship with Jose Mourinho.

Spurs have been linked heavily with Willian for the past couple of months (Mundo Deportivo), but it looks like the Lilywhites could face considerable competition for his signature when he becomes a free agent this summer.

Liverpool (Sport via Sport Witness), Arsenal (ESPN Brazil journalist Jorge Nicola) and Newcastle (Football Insider) are all reportedly interested in landing the 31-year-old.

The winger dropped a hint in an interview with Desimpedidos’ Bolivia Talk Show earlier this week where he seemed to suggest that he would be open to a move to Chelsea’s London rivals, Arsenal and Tottenham.

ESPN Brasil sports journalist Joao Castelo-Branco, however, has claimed that the deal to take Willian to Spurs is nowhere near complete.

Gold expects the North Londoners to make a big push for the Chelsea player this summer.

When asked in during a Q&A on his YouTube channel about Spurs’ potential move for Willian, he said: “I think swaps, free transfers and targeting older players in the last year of their contracts is going to be the way to go.

“I would be stunned if Tottenham are not pushing hard to get Willian in. He’s a free transfer but Premier League clubs can’t talk to him yet.

“Only foreign teams can speak to him at the moment but with his relationship with Mourinho, I would be very surprised if there is not a big push to get him.

“You would think Mourinho would be enough to bring him. You could argue it’s in a quite a crowded position in the team but could it free you up to sell another player?.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If there was one player we are guaranteed to be interested in this summer given our financial constraints and the characteristics Jose likes in players, it is Willian. While there is no guarantee that we are going to get him given the competition for his signature, I would be very surprised if Jose hasn’t already spoken to him about moving to North London.
