Journalist says Man City are favourites to beat Spurs to 28-year-old

Journalist Dean Jones has said that while it is a great sign for Tottenham fans that the club are being backed to make a move for Joshua Kimmich, he expects Manchester City to win the race for the Bayern Munich star.

Kimmich, who has been a mainstay in the Bayern side for so long, is no longer as prominent a player for the Bavarian club as Thomas Tuchel continues to put his own imprint on the side.

It has been reported by several outlets that the German international could be on his way out of the Allianz Arena at the end of the season, with The Guardian even suggesting last week that the Lilywhites are plotting a £60m move for the midfielder.

However, as one would expect, Tottenham are expected to face plenty of competition for the 28-year-old, with The Daily Mail reporting a couple of days ago that both Manchester City and Barcelona are plotting summer moves for the player.

Jones has now explained that Pep Guardiola is extremely keen on bringing Kimmich to the Etihad Stadium, ruling out the prospect of Spurs being able to beat the Premier League champions to the midfielder.

When asked about Tottenham’s interest in the Bayern star, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “My reaction would be that they will have a hell of a fight on their hands because Manchester City are definitely looking into Kimmich’s situation.

“He is a player that Pep Guardiola would love to have in his system, and I find it very hard to believe that Kimmich would choose Tottenham over Manchester City. I think it’s a great sign of the times for Tottenham that they could even be contemplating a signing of this nature.

“But I think it’s probably a bit too soon to be competing for a player of this level, with him coming out of Bayern and there being links with clubs like Manchester City. It would be an extremely difficult one to do, and one that I wouldn’t be too expectant over.”

One can argue that Postecoglou is more comfortable working with young, hungry players rather than established superstars, which is why I would be very surprised if Tottenham got involved in a bidding war for Kimmich next summer.
