Journalist says one January transfer for Spurs star is ‘completely ruled out’

Journalist Jorge Nicola said on his YouTube Channel (26/12/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) that there is no chance of Sao Paulo signing Lucas Moura in January but explains that a deal could go through next summer.

Moura has missed much of the 2022-23 season with injuries and the winger remains sidelined at the moment, much to the frustration of Antonio Conte.

The Spurs boss admitted last week that the Brazilian’s situation is a concern, remarking that the player is ‘struggling a lot to find a solution’ to the problem (Football London).

Nicola has now suggested that Moura’s injury woes might not actually be a bad thing for Sao Paulo’s hopes of bringing the player back to the club.

He explains that the Brazilian club can only sign the Spurs star if there is not any competition from European clubs for his signature next summer.

Nicola adds that top European clubs are unlikely to vie for Moura’s signature next summer if the player continues to be sidelined and does not get many minutes for the Lilywhites.

The journalist adds that the former PSG man could spend a couple more years in a top European League, which is why Sao Paulo are hoping he plays as little as possible until the summer.

However, Nicola states that Moura joining the Brazilian club in January is ‘completely ruled out’ and that a move is only possible next summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Moura’s fitness woes continue, one would presume that Tottenham would activate the option to extend the winger’s contract by one year so that they will get a fee for him next summer. I do expect some European clubs to show interest in the 30-year-old, which is why Sao Paulo are unlikely to win the race for the Spurs star.
