Journalist says Spurs are more likely to land prolific forward than Liverpool

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey has installed Tottenham Hotspur as the favourites to land Santiago Gimenez from Feyenoord this summer.

Gimenez has been one of the most prolific strikers across Europe over the last two seasons and the centre-forward has been widely tipped to leave Rotterdam this summer for a bigger club.

Over recent weeks, plenty of outlets have suggested that the Mexican international is one of the names at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist as Ange Postecoglou aims to bolster his forward line.

Tottenham still need a focal point to their attack after Kane exit

This includes an update from GiveMeSport last month which suggested that the North London club now see the Mexican international as a ‘priority’ target and are set to begin dialogues with Feyenoord over a deal.

The publication added that Spurs will now ‘press ahead with their interest’ in the 23-year-old and are keen to understand how much the operation would cost.

Just a few days ago, TV Azteca said that although Gimenez is attracting interest from across Europe, he has his heart set on a move to the Premier League this summer.

With Arne Slot taking over at Liverpool from Jurgen Klopp, it has also been suggested over recent days that the Dutch coach wants to be reunited with the striker at Merseyside (Caught Offside).

Tottenham are more likely to sign Gimenez than Liverpool

However, Bailey believes that the Feyenoord star is far more likely to end up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium than Anfield this summer.

When asked about Gimenez’s future, the journalist told Rousing The Kop: “I think Spurs like him a lot, they’ve been doing work on him. I’d be making them favourites in that race at the moment. I haven’t heard too much on Liverpool.

“I know there’s the links with Arne Slot but how much impact the manager’s going to have on the search for players, I don’t think Liverpool are built like that. They might be asking about his players but I don’t think he would drive that.”

While Gimenez does seem to be on Tottenham’s radar, it certainly does not appear as if the North London club have settled on the Mexican as their top striker target.

Spurs’ decision on who to pursue upfront might depend on what happens with Richarlison this summer, who has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

We have seen players who have been prolific in Holland come to Tottenham before and struggle, you only have to look at Vincent Janssen and Steven Bergwijn; we should be looking towards proven Premier League players such as Ivan Toney.
