Journalist says Spurs are now one of four clubs vying for Serie A midfielder

Italian journalist Giorgio Dusi has said that Tottenham Hotspur and three other clubs are set to get involved in a bidding war for Teun Koopmeiners, with Atalanta now ready to sell the midfielder to the highest bidder in the summer.

Koopmeiners has not only become the main man in Atalnata’s engine room over the last couple of years but he has also established himself as a key player for the Netherlands national side.

The 26-year-old’s reputation has thus skyrocketed and it has been widely reported over the last few months that a number of clubs are now plotting a move for him in the summer.

Tottenham are thought to be among those clubs, with Tuttosport (via Sport Witness) even claiming last month that the Lilywhites had already begun work to sign the player.

A few weeks ago, CalcioMercato suggested that Spurs and Liverpool are in the ‘front row’ to secure the former AZ Alkmaar man when the transfer window reopens in June.

On Thursday, Koopmeiners himself opened up on his desire to seek a new challenge at the end of the season and admitted that he had communicated the decision to Atalanta already (De Telegraaf).

Atalanta are willing to sell Teun Koopmeiners

Dusi has now said that the Bergamo club would not have been surprised to hear the midfielder’s statement, revealing that they are ready to sell the player to the highest bidder.

The journalist claimed that the race for the Dutchman is between Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool and Juventus, with Bianconeri at the front of the queue at the moment.

He told TV Play (as relayed by Sport Witness) about Koopmeiners: A little bit everyone expects his departure from Atalanta at the end of the season, so his statements from the Netherlands’ training camp did not come as much of a surprise.

“Atalanta only want money for his transfer so they will accept the highest offer. Juve is the number one candidate but the payment discourse needs to be looked at. Perhaps some player Atalanta like, such as Iling Jr or Soulé, could be included. Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool are also interested.”

Atalanta will likely wait until after the Euros to sell Koopmeiners, knowing that some decent performances from the midfielder in Germany would shoot up his asking price. The 26-year-old would be a very good fit for Postecoglou’s set-up, given his physical and technical attributes allied with his versatility.
