Journalist says Spurs are ‘remaining tight-lipped’ on injury to key star

Alasdair Gold has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur are remaining tight-lipped regarding Hugo Lloris’ injury as they do not want Arsenal to know if the goalkeeper will be fit for the North London derby.

The French national set-up announced on Monday morning that Lloris had left the squad ahead of their upcoming Nations League clashes against Austria and Denmark due to an injury in his right thigh.

Football.London subsequently revealed that the 35-year-old’s injury was diagnosed by Les Blues’ team doctor at their training base at Clairefontaine.

It was explained that the goalkeeper was found to have ‘a small injury to his right thigh’ and that France decided to send him back to Spurs so he can get back to full fitness as soon as possible.

The report explained that it is unclear whether the Tottenham captain will be fit to take the field for the clash at the Emirates on October 1.

Gold has now said that Spurs have not provided any further information on Lloris’ injury and suggested that Fraser Forster may be in line for his Tottenham debut.

The journalist told Football.London: “Forster will subconsciously be preparing that little bit more than normal just in case he does have to deputise for Lloris in the north London derby.

“Spurs are remaining tight-lipped on the small thigh injury suffered by the skipper but that doesn’t particularly mean anything as they will want that level of uncertainty publicly ahead of the north London derby to throw off the opposition.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Losing Lloris will be a huge blow as the Frenchman has been in exceptional form since the start of the season. However, in Forster, we have an experienced deputy, who has played in many big matches for club and country, and he should be able to cope with the pressure of a North London derby.
