Journalist says Spurs are ‘unlikely’ to sanction January loan move for attacker

Italian journalist Mario Gago has said that Tottenham Hotspur may not want to loan out Bryan Gil this month but suggested that the attacker could thrive in Fiorentina.

Reports of Fiorentina’s interest in landing Gil on a loan have intensified since Tottenham completed their acquisition of Timo Werner last week.

A few days ago, it was suggested by Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) that the Viola are still waiting for Tottenham to give the green light for the 22-year-old to leave on loan.

It was subsequently suggested by Corriere Fiorentino (via Sport Witness) that Fiorentina are ‘working incessantly’ to get their hands on the Spurs star, with the club’s CEO Joe Barone and director of football Daniele Prade both said to be doing the necessary groundwork for the deal.

However, Gago has now said that Ange Postecoglou’s men might be reluctant to loan out Gil for the third time after the Spain international had spells at Valencia and Sevilla during the last two seasons.

Tottenham are unlikely to loan Bryan Gil out

When asked about Fiorentina’s interest in signing the Spurs star on a temporary deal, the journalist told Radio Bruno’s A pranzo con il Pentasport (as relayed by Viola News): “It’s unlikely that Tottenham will be open to another loan. He cost €25m plus Erik Lamela, he would cost no less than €15m. He hasn’t exploded, but with two months of continuity he can do very well.”

Gago suggested that Gil might need time to adapt to the demands of Serie A but opined that the Tottenham star has the qualities to be a hit at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

He added about the former Sevilla man: “He’s not a winger, he’s another type of player. It would be his first experience in Italy, he may need time to adapt. [Fiorentina manager Vincenzo] Italiano has clear ideas, but you have to immediately absorb his way of playing, understand the rules of his game.

“I would like to see him in Italian football. He’s not very fast, he doesn’t need a very high pace, in a team that dribbles well he could fit in well, but in Italiano’s formation there would be a need to play a role suited to him.

“Perhaps like Pioli had done with Brahim Diaz, as a false winger or midfielder without defensive duties. With Beltran I would see it well, they speak the same football language too.”

I do expect Gil to leave on loan but I suspect the winger would prefer to return to La Liga again. However, it is clear that Fiorentina are quite keen on signing him and perhaps they will successfully persuade the 22-year-old that he would fit in well at the club.
