The Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella has said that Victor Osimhem would prefer joining Chelsea over the likes of Tottenham Hotspur in January.
Some outlets over the last few weeks have talked up the chances of Tottenham making a sensational move for Osimhen in January.
This includes an update from Calciomercato.it, who claimed last week that Spurs had set their sights on the Napoli star as a potential alternative to Brentford’s Ivan Toney
The outlet explained that with the 24-year-old’s contract running out in 2025 and with Napoli failing to make progress in their talks over a new contract, the Italian club could put the player for sale.
The report stated that the reigning Serie A champions would demand a whopping €120m (£105m) for the striker, which they alleged is ‘within reach’ for Tottenham.
However, The Daily Mail subsequently reported on November 20 that Stamford Bridge is Osimhen’s most likely destination if the striker leaves Naples in January.
Victor Osimhen has a soft spot for Chelsea
This information has now been backed up Kinsella, who has said that the West London club has a special place in the Nigerian international’s heart.
The journalist told London is Blue – Chelsea FC podcast: “It’s a bad market for strikers in January, and Osimhen is the striker that everyone wants.
“There’s no point in getting another young one now. He’d be a great fit, and Chelsea like him. Osimhen likes Chelsea, I had the information for a little while.
“He’s always loved Chelsea, loved Drogba. They’ve got some similarities. He’d be interested in Manchester United, but they’re not going to sign a striker.
“It’s basically Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs competing in the battleground and Osimhen would probably pick Chelsea out of three.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Even though Spurs might have some of the Kane fee left to spend, Osimhen would certainly be out of their price range. If Tottenham enter the market for a number nine in January (which is unlikely), they will pursue someone like Jonathan David, Dusan Vlahovic or Santiago Gimenez, who would all be valued around the £40m-£60m mark.
