Journalist says Spurs may be ‘kicking themselves’ for not signing 26-year-old

Journalist Dean Jones has argued that Tottenham Hotspur will be ruing the fact that they passed up on the chance to sign Kim Min-Jae after the centre-back was recommended to the club.

Kim has been a revelation since his switch to Napoli last summer, with the South Korean appearing to be a decent shout to take home the Serie A Defender of the Year award in his first year in Italian football.

Reports have indicated that the centre-back’s performances have not gone unnoticed by English clubs, with Football Insider claiming last week that Tottenham are expected to reignite their interest in the Napoli star in the summer after having failed to land him previously.

The report added that the North London club could even be willing to meet the £43m release clause in Kim’s contract, which will be active for two weeks in July, with Manchester United also said to have their eye on the centre-back.

Jones believes that Tottenham are the ones who will have the most regret about not snapping up the 26-year-old prior to his move to Naples.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “It sounds good in hindsight, but if you think about it at the time, Kim was at Fenerbahce. He signed as Koulibaly’s replacement at Napoli.

“I don’t think he was on their radar. His emergence at Napoli has been great.

“I know that Tottenham had been recommended him in the past.

“So, if anyone is kicking themselves, it might be them to be honest.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Our failure to sign Kim will go down as one of a long series of blunders after we similarly missed out on the likes of Jack Grealish, Sadio Mane and Luis Suarez in previous years.

I am not optimistic about our chances of signing the South Korean this summer as I do not see why he would be in a hurry to leave Napoli.
