Journalist says to keep an eye on Spurs player potentially moving to Burnley

Journalist Ben Jacobs has said that Burnely are a team to keep an eye on as the race for Bryan Gil’s signature intensifies in the final few days of the transfer window.

Gil’s chances of getting game time at Tottenham have now diminished further after the club signed Timo Werner earlier this month while Manor Solomon is also thought to be close to returning from his injury (Telegraph).

It thus does not come as a surprise that the winger is being linked with yet another loan move away from Hotspur Way ahead of the February 1 deadline.

It has been widely reported over the last couple of weeks that Lazio are eyeing a move for the 22-year-old (Quotidiano Sportivo) but over the last few days, it has emerged that the player is also attracting interest from Premier League sides.

In fact, the print edition of  Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) revealed on January 25 that Brighton and Brentford had already started negotiations with Spurs regarding a temporary deal for the Spaniard.

Move to Burnley on the cards for Bryan Gil?

Jacobs has now confirmed that Tottenham are indeed listening to offers for Gil but he made it clear that there is ‘nothing advanced’ with Lazio at the moment.

Interestingly, the journalist named Fenerbahce as contenders for the Spurs star’s signature while also adding that Burnley are ones to watch.

Jacobs told The Last Word on Spurs podcast: “With Gil, there is a willingness to listen to offers, Fenerbahce are keen, so another Turkish move, nothing advanced with Lazio.

“There are some suggestions with nothing advanced with Lazio. There are some suggestions from sources that there could be some late Premier League interest, I’d keep an eye on Burnley.”

A loan move to Burnley would make a lot of sense for Gil as he is well-suited to the way Vincent Kompany’s men play. The 22-year-old will also have a better chance of playing regularly at Turf Moor than he would at the Amex Stadium or the Gtech Community Stadium.
