Journalist says Tottenham target will have ‘his pick of clubs’ this summer

Pete O’Rourke is convinced that Conor Gallagher is on his way out of Chelsea this summer but he claimed that the Tottenham academy graduate will have a whole host of destinations to choose from.

The speculation linking Gallagher with a move to Spurs continues to intensify as we get closer to the summer transfer window and the severity of Chelsea’s financial problems become clearer.

A couple of days ago, The Times suggested that the Blues have decided they will sell the 23-year-old before January 30 as they needed to raise over £100m by that date to ensure they do not breach the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

The report explained that they have arrived at that decision because with the midfielder being homegrown, the entire fee that Chelsea receive from his sale will go down as trading profit in their 2023-24 accounts.

The outlet named Tottenham and West Ham as the two clubs at the front of the queue to secure the England international’s signature.

Tottenham will have competition for Conor Gallagher

However, O’Rourke believes that a lot more clubs will get involved in the race and that Gallagher will be spoilt for choice this summer.

The journalist told Football Insider: “It’ll be the homegrown assets to go first, they’re the obvious ones who will bring in pure profit. You’ve got Conor Gallagher, who hasn’t signed a new contract.

“There’s no doubt there will be lots of interest in him, and I’m sure he’ll have his pick of clubs. He’s no closer to agreeing a new deal, even though he says he wants to stay.”

A move to Tottenham would be quite appealing to Gallagher as it affords him an opportunity to remain in London and potentially play Champions League football. However, Chelsea might not be overly keen on selling their academy player to their bitter local rivals.
