Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer dealings have flown relatively under the radar this summer, especially when compared to the cash being splashed across London at Chelsea.
However, the Lilywhites have technically already made three summer signings, including a bargain transfer of 16-year-old Alfie Devine from Wigan Athletic, with the youngster making his debut in a friendly against Ipswich Town last week.
Tottenham then secured the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton to bolster the holding midfield role in Jose Mourinho’s squad.
Spurs also managed to scoop Joe Hart on a free transfer after his contract with Burnley came to an end in June, bringing yet more experience and leadership.
Reports then emerged today that Tottenham have already completed the signing of Matt Doherty from Wolverhampton Wanderers (TalkSPORT).
Independent journalist, Miguel Delaney reported that the initial fee was set to be £12m, with a potential £4m in add-ons.
Football London journalist, Alasdair Gold was keen to point out what a great deal this was for Spurs, while ending his Twitter rant with a rather inviting message to fans, ‘Spurs aren’t done yet.’
He fits the advanced right-back role Mourinho is looking for perfectly, with the LB and CBs a three in possession. The plan for Spurs this summer has been to do the smart deals Mourinho believes will seal gaps in his squad and get the best out of an otherwise talented bunch.

It’s not a sexy £100m signing but it’s a smart one and Tottenham proved last season that spending a lot of money didn’t solve their problems. It’s spending money in the right ways that does that. Doherty could prove to be one of the bargains of the window and Spurs aren’t done.
