Journalist sheds light on altercation between Steve Hitchen and Newcastle fan

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham’s technical performance director Steve Hitchen had an argument with a Newcastle United fan at St James’ Park yesterday.

Following their Saudi takeover earlier this month, Newcastle game out the gates with immense speed and desire, both from the players and the fans. The Magpies took the lead within just a couple minutes of the match kicking off thanks to a Callum Wilson header.

However, Spurs soon took control of proceedings and equalised through Tanguy Ndombele, with Harry Kane and Heung-min Son adding strikes to seal the win. Although, Eric Dier’s late own goal did make things a little nervy.

Alasdair Gold has now revealed that there was another noteworthy off-field incident during the second half, involving Hitchen, who was in the dugout alongside Tottenham’s managing director, Fabio Paratici.

The journalist revealed that Hitchen had a tirade at the referee after a challenge on Emerson Royal.

A Newcastle fan in the stands was said to be angered by Hitchen’s response and the pair then had a back of forth of their opinions before a steward stepped in to intervene.

Hitchen, like Paratici, seems to be someone who is passionate and wears his heart on his sleeve. So, I am not surprised that he had a row with a Newcastle fan in the stands. On the whole, I thought Andre Marriner had a very good game and got most of his decisions right.
