Journalist: Spurs remain confident that deal to sign 21-year-old can still happen

Journalist Dean Jones has said there is still ‘confidence’ at Tottenham that they can get a deal for Gift Orban wrapped up before the transfer deadline.

Orban has started the new season where he left off last campaign, having found the back of the net six times in his first six matches across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

Reports from Belgium over the last week have indicated that the striker’s impressive start to the season has also alerted other clubs, with Fulham and Lille also thought to be circling the 21-year-old (De Morgen).

While it was revealed by Ben Jacobs on the Last Word on Spurs podcast that the Nigerian wants to join the North London club, some sources have suggested recently that the Lilywhites have no intention of paying Gent’s €30m (£25.5m) asking price for the forward (Voetbalkrant).

Spurs are confident a Gift Orban deal can be signed

Jones has now said that despite the concerns that have cropped up recently, Spurs still think it is possible to get the Orban deal over the line.

The journalist said on The Football Terrace (as transcribed by TBR Football): “There was never going to be a problem with personal terms with Gift Orban. That was never a worry of theirs. The concern is actually getting this deal over the line. But there is still confidence it can happen.”

It appears as if Tottenham have the Orban deal lined up and ready but are waiting to get some players out of the door first before finalising the striker’s capture. At the moment, all indications are that this deal might drag on until the final couple of days of the transfer window.
