Journalist suggests 28-year-old could be one of three centre-backs Spurs sign this summer

Journalist Dean Jones has suggested that Tottenham could sign Clement Lenglet as well as two other central defenders during this transfer window.

Tottenham have made three new signings so far this summer in the form of Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison and Manor Solomon while also making Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski’s loan moves permanent.

However, much to the frustration of some Spurs fans, the Lilywhites have not yet strengthened in central defence, which was a problem area for the club last season.

Ange Postecoglou admitted this week that signing a centre-back is a priority and that the club are looking to add reinforcements to that area as soon as possible (Football.London).

One man for whom negotiations have seemingly rumbled on for the past few weeks is Lenglet, with Sport suggesting last week that Barcelona want to sell the Frenchman to Spurs before they fly out to the United States for pre-season.

However, the publication explained that the two clubs are still some way apart in their respective valuations of the 28-year-old, with Spurs not wanting to pay more than €5m (£4.2m) while the Catalan giants allegedly value the player at around €15m (£12.8m).

Spurs could get three new centre-backs this summer

Jones has now suggested that due to the inexpensive nature of the Lenglet operation, Spurs could also sign one of Micky Van de Ven and Edmond Taposoba for the left centre-back role, as well as another defender such as Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I wonder if Lenglet would be a third centre-back. Because of the terms of that one, I think it’d be such a good value signing that Tottenham could potentially be able to sign three defensive-minded players if he was one of them.

“Adarabioyo is one they’re looking at. He’s reasonably cheap as well. Van de Ven or Tapsoba is going to be the top-end signing.”

Lenglet is clearly being eyed as cover for the left centre-back role, with Tapsoba/Van de Ven likely to be the first choice in that position.

With Eric Dier looking set to stay, if Tottenham sign someone of the profile of Adarabioyo, that would likely mean that Tanganga will follow Rodon and Sanchez out of the door this summer.
