Journalist suggests club would sell centre-back to Spurs for around £34m

German journalist Christian Falk has confirmed that Tottenham are circling around Piero Hincapie and asserted that Bayer Leverkusen would be willing to sell the young centre-back to the Premier League side.

It was reported by SportBild (via Sport Witness) last week that having secured one top centre-back from the Bundesliga last summer in Micky van de Ven, Spurs could look towards Germany again to strengthen their backline.

The outlet suggested that Ange Postecoglou’s men have their eyes on Hincapie, who has created history by winning the Bundesliga title with Leverkusen over the weekend.

The outlet claimed that a departure for Ecuador International this summer is ‘not out of the question’ particularly if Jonathan Tah stays out at BayArena.

Tottenham could sign Hincapie for around £34 million

Falk has now confirmed the same, suggesting that Xabi Alonso’s men are ready to keep hold of Tah and sacrifice Hicapie. However, the journalist asserted that it would take an offer of at least €40m (£34m) to be able to poach the left-sided centre-back from the German champions.

Falk told CaughtOffside: “So far, Leverkusen have a strong squad from positions one to 18. If Jonathan Tah stays, another central defender may want to leave to play at another club: Piero Hincapie.

“The Ecuadorian is being courted by English clubs like Tottenham. Transfer fee: at least €40 million (£34 million), which Simon Rolfes and Xabi Alonso could immediately invest in the new team.”

Hincapie is quite similar in profile to Ben Davies, who I do not think Tottenham will get rid of this summer. Having said that, Spurs might view the opportunity to sign a quality young defender such as Leverkusen star for a relatively low fee as too good to miss out on.
