Journalist suggests Conte does not believe defender is ‘at the level Tottenham need’

Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has claimed Antonio Conte does not think Joe Rodon is good enough for Tottenham.

Rodon has not had a run of consecutive starts under his belt since joining Tottenham from Swansea a year and a half ago.

The centre-back’s only appearance under Conte came in Spurs’ 2-1 loss to NS Mura last month, with the Welshman failing to cover himself in glory in that game before being substituted.

Conte has admitted that he sees the 24-year-old as cover for Eric Dier in the central sweeper role in Tottenham’s back three.

According to Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, Rodon is frustrated by the lack of game time at Spurs and wants to secure a loan move away from the club in January in order to get game time under his belt.

The former Swansea defender is alleged to be of interest to Brighton and Newcastle United ahead of January.

When asked about Rodon’s future at Tottenham, Bridge told GiveMeSport: “As it stands right now, I just get this feeling that Antonio Conte doesn’t think he’s at the level Tottenham need.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We do not know if Conte rates Rodon highly but Eric Dier is deservingly keeping the Welshman out of the team at the moment.

I would like to see the 24-year-old loaned out in January so that he can demonstrate that he can perform consistently at the Premier League level.
