Journalist suggests it will be ‘risky’ for Spurs to start summer signing at Arsenal

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that it would be risky for Tottenham if Fraser Forster makes his debut for the club in the north London Derby tomorrow lunchtime.

The French national team announced on Monday morning that Hugo Lloris had withdrawn from the squad ahead of their upcoming Nations League clashes against Austria and Denmark due to an injury in his right thigh.

Football.London subsequently revealed that the 35-year-old’s injury was diagnosed by Les Blues’ team doctor at their training base in Clairefontaine.

It was explained that the goalkeeper was found to have ‘a small injury to his right thigh’ and it was decided to send him back to Spurs to allow the World Cup winner to return to full fitness as soon as possible.

There has since been no clarification on Lloris’ fitness, with Antonio Conte refusing to divulge any details in his press conference, insisting that he did not want to give Arsenal an advantage (Football.London).

Despite the experience that Forster has under his belt, Jones believes that the game on Saturday would not be ideal circumstances for the goalkeeper to make his Spurs debut.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “The alternative to Lloris is that Fraser Forster comes in for what would be his Tottenham debut in a massive fixture.

“I’m sure Forster will have confidence that he could cope with an occasion like that because that is what you are bought and told to prepare for as a backup goalkeeper, but that’d be a huge moment for him and a risky moment potentially for [Antonio] Conte.”

It is certainly not ideal for Forster to be making his debut for Spurs in such a big game but the 34-year-old is not a stranger to big games and big atmospheres. If Lloris is not fit, the former Saints star might view Saturday as a big opportunity to show that he can be relied upon.
