Journalist suggests player’s head might already be at Tottenham Hotspur

It has been postulated in the Swedish press that Lucas Bergvall’s downturn in form over recent weeks might be because the midfielder already has his eyes on next season with Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs secured Bergvall’s services from Djurgardens in January and loaned the midfielder back out to the Swedish club for the remainder of the season.

There is certainly a lot of excitement at the North London club about the 18-year-old’s impending arrival and the teenager has continued to be a standout player for Djurgardens this season.

In fact, Bergvall’s displays have been a key reason why they made it to the Swedish Cup final, where they were beaten on penalties by Malmo on Wednesday.

The on-loan Tottenham man has managed three goals and five assists in just six cup games this season but it has emerged that some of his recent performances have left a lot to be desired.

Lucas Bergvall’s head may already be at Spurs

Writing for Svenska Dagbladet (as relayed by Sport Witness) ahead of the cup final, journalist Anders Lindblad suggested that Bergvall’s form has ‘wavered’, which could be an issue for Djurgardens.

He suggested that the Swedish club are reliant on the midfielder to perform, which is why his shaky form comes as a concern.

The journalist states that Bergvall’s struggles could partly be down to the player’s head already being at Tottenham.

Even if players remain ultra-professional in this type of situation, inevitably, a part of them will already be looking ahead to the next season when they know that their time at a certain club is up.

This was also the case with Destiny Udogie last year, with his form for Udinese suffering in the final couple of months of the campaign.
