Journalist suggests PSG player would want Man Utd move over Tottenham switch

Adam Crafton of The Athletic has suggested Ander Herrera was one of the names Paris Saint-Germain potentially mentioned to Tottenham in a swap deal for Tanguy Ndombele.

Tottenham entered talks with the Ligue 1 leaders last week over sending Ndombele to the Parc des Princes on loan for the rest of the season (The Guardian).

PSG have allegedly stated their willingness to cover the 25-year-old’s full £200,000-a-week salary over the duration of the loan and, while a move has been okayed, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is keen on holding out for a permanent sale instead (GFFN).

The Telegraph also reported that PSG offered Leandro Paredes as part of a swap deal, but Antonio Conte was unconvinced whether the Argentina international would fit his future plans.

Crafton believes PSG named Herrera, who joined the club on a free transfer from Manchester United in 2019, as part of a list who could also be offered up in a swap, but admits he is ‘happy’ with his role in the French capital.

Speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast, Crafton said: “PSG’s Ander Herrera was mentioned as a name in contention for swap deal with Tanguy Ndombele at Tottenham, but he’s happy at PSG and I’m told that he would only want to play for Manchester United in England.”

It seems the move for Ndombele will be a complex one with all the finances involved, so Spurs and PSG will need to find a way to make it achievable this month. While Crafton believes Herrera would only join Man Utd, like Paredes, he will likely be a question mark for Conte regardless.
