Journalist suggests Spurs are not big enough to turn 30-year-old’s head

Corriere dello Sport journalist Antonio Giordana has rubbished the speculation linking Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Insigne was linked with a move to Tottenham during the summer transfer window, with reports claiming at the time that Spurs were the front-runners to land the experienced wide-man.

Despite staying put at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, speculation over the Italian international’s has not slowed down, with Tottenham backed to reignite their interest in the attacker when the transfer window reopens in January.

The 30-year-old’s current deal runs out this summer and Corriere del Mezzogiorno (as relayed by Sport Witness) claimed last month that the Italian international’s wage demands are the major stumbling block preventing him from signing a new contract in Naples.

Napoli sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli has admitted that the Serie A club wish to hold on to their captain.

Giordana has now suggested that Insigne would not want to swap Napoli for a club like Tottenham or Arsenal, questioning why the experienced winger would want to go to a new country and league at this stage of his career.

He said (as relayed by Area Napoli): “If I go away from Napoli, I do it only for a very high range, and Arsenal and Tottenham are not a part of it.

“Are we really sure that the right offer would come from these teams? Do you need Insigne?

“And are we sure that Lorenzo would get back into the game abroad, at 31, to learn a new language and be ‘Insigne among others’?”

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect that it has always been Insigne’s entourage who have been feeding information to the press about Tottenham’s alleged interest in order to get Napoli to meet his contract demands. Spurs evidently do not need a player like Insigne.
