Football.London journalist Emma de Duve has reported that Tottenham’s pursuit of AS Roma winger Nicolo Zaniolo could depend on the future of Bryan Gil.
Spurs have made six new signings so far this transfer window, and reports indicate the North London club are now prioritising moving players on before making other signings (Evening Standard).
One player who has been linked with a move to Spurs over recent days is Zaniolo, with some publications suggesting Antonio Conte’s men would have no problem meeting the Serie A club’s €50m (£42.5m) asking price (La Repubblica – 22/07/22 via Sport Witness).
Emma de Duve has now pointed out in a Football.London report that Conte has six options in the form of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison, Lucas Moura and Bryan Gil for the three forward positions.
She explains that should Spurs decide to loan Gil out this summer, that would make room in the squad for the arrival of Zaniolo. The journalist also added that the Spain international has plenty of admirers in both La Liga and Ligue 1 this summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
I think Tottenham’s interest in Zaniolo might partly explain why Conte has experimented with Lucas Moura at right-wing-back during pre-season. I suspect that Conte and Paratici view the opportunity to sign the 23-year-old as too good to miss out on.
