Journalist suggests Vincent Kompany could sign striker if he joins Tottenham

Journalist Filip Joos has suggested that if Vincent Kompany is appointed as Tottenham’s head coach, he could look to bring Romelu Lukaku to the club.

Multiple outlets have reported over the last month that Kompany is one of the names on Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Antonio Conte (Daily Star).

The Sun went one step further, reporting last week that the Manchester City legend has now shot up to the top of Spurs’ wishlist.

The publication claimed that the Tottenham hierarchy have been ‘blown away’ by the work that Kompany has done since taking over at Burnley and the football he has got the Clarets playing.

However, this has been contradicted by Football Insider, who suggested on Tuesday that even though the Man City legend is ‘flattered’ by Spurs’ interest, he remains keen on managing Burnley in the top flight next season.

Joos believes that if Kompany does replace Antonio Conte at Tottenham, he could sign his compatriot, Lukaku, as Harry Kane’s replacement.

When asked about the Belgian striker’s future, the journalist told Voetbal Primeur: “It could well be the team where Conte becomes coach.

“Juventus is mentioned and if they get rid of Vlahovic, there will be enough money to get Lukaku.

“It (a move to Tottenham) would mean that Kompany would have to let Harry Kane go to get Lukaku.

“Those are big shoes to fill. I might not dare to do it, but I also think it could work.”

This seems like pure speculation rather than being backed up by anything concrete.

I would be extremely surprised if Spurs appointed Kompany as head coach.

Despite the promise that the Belgian has shown, his lack of experience at the top level would be a huge worry for the North London club.
