Journalist ‘sure’ that 20-year-old is on Tottenham’s radar ahead of January

Journalist Pete O’Rourke is confident that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping an eye on Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi ahead of the January transfer window.

Frattesi was rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar during the summer (Gazzetta) but he ended up staying put at Sassuolo.

The central midfielder has made an impressive beginning to the new campaign, having started every single Serie A game so far, and finding the back of the net on three occasions (Transfermarkt).

Calciomercato reported last week that a move to the Premier League is on the cards for Frattesi in January, with Tottenham being named as a potential destination for the player.

The report also asserted that both Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici are fans of the Italy international.

This was subsequently followed by a report in Sassuolo News, which claimed a few days ago that scouts from Tottenham were present at the Mapei Stadium to watch Frattesi in Sussolo’s clash against Inter Milan last week.

Given the success Spurs have had when it comes to recruiting from Serie A of late, O’Rourke believes the 23-year-old will be of interest to the North Londoners.

When asked about the speculation linking Frattesi with a move to Tottenham, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “I’m sure he’s somebody who’s on their radar and that they’re looking at.

“They’ve had success in the past signing players from Italy so it’s been a successful avenue for Tottenham in the transfer window in the last couple of seasons.”

I simply do not see the need for another midfielder in Frattesi’s mould, given that Conte has four similar players at his disposal in the form of Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Bissouma and Skipp.

An attacking midfielder like Malinovskyi, who can also serve as cover for the two number ten roles in a 3-4-3, is arguably a more pressing need for Spurs.
