Journalist thinks Harry Kane is likely impressed with one Spurs-linked manager

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has suggested that Vincent Kompany would have the respect of Harry Kane and the other senior members of the Tottenham squad if the Burnley boss takes over at the North London club.

Kompany has had a transformative effect on Burnley since taking over last summer, with the Clarets already having secured promotion back to the Premier League.

The Belgian got his side playing some eye-catching football, with Burnley having scored the most goals in the Championship this season while also conceding the fewest.

That is perhaps why the Manchester City legend is thought to be on Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Antonio Conte at the helm (The Daily Star).

The Sun even suggested on March 30 that Kompany had shot up to the top of Spurs’ wishlist but this was rubbished by The Independent, who claimed last week that the Lilywhites’ interest in the Belgian had been ‘overstated’.

O’Rourke believes that despite his lack of managerial experience, the 36-year-old would have no trouble winning over the Spurs squad.

When asked about the speculation linking Kompany with the Tottenham job, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “I definitely think he’s got the personality; there are no doubts about that.

“He had that as a Manchester City captain and he was such a leader on and off the pitch at City and had such a successful period as Manchester City captain.

“I think he brings respect as well from players. Harry Kane was used to coming up against him as a player, so I’m sure he’ll be well aware of him as well and looking from the outside, he will have been impressed with the job he’s done at Burnley.”

Tottenham simply cannot get their next managerial appointment wrong on the back of the failed Mourinho, Nuno and Conte experiments.

So, the North London club cannot afford to take a gamble on an inexperienced candidate like Kompany despite the fact that the Belgian has shown plenty of promise.
