German football expert Kevin Hatchard has said that he would be worried if a big club like Tottenham signed Piero Hincapie as the centre-back is still a work in progress rather than the finished article.
Hincapie has won a lot of admirers since moving to Bayer Leverkusen 18 months ago and the 21-year-old also turned heads with his displays for Ecuador at the World Cup in Qatar.
Italian journalist Marco Conterio reported two weeks ago that Spurs are eyeing a move for the centre-back, with the journalist alleging that Antonio Conte had asked the North London club to snap up the young defender.
Tottenham’s interest in Hincapie was subsequently backed up by Tuttomercatoweb, who claimed last week that the Lilywhites were ahead of Inter Milan in the race for the Leverkusen star.
However, Hatchard has now opined that the Ecuadorian is still ‘raw’ and needs to go to a club where he would continue playing regularly rather than a team like Spurs, where he might warm the bench.
Here’s what the journalist told Sky Sports Football Daily about Tottenham’s rumoured pursuit of Hincapie:

Spurs Web Opinion
Hatchard’s point is a fair one and is particularly relevant with a coach like Antonio Conte, who is not willing to put a lot of trust in young players who are unproven at the highest level. While Hincapie seems like a typical Paratici target, I suspect Conte would prefer Alessandro Bastoni next summer.
