Journalist thinks Spurs are more likely to sign 25-year-old than Marc Guehi in January

Tom Barclay thinks that 25-year-old Lloyd Kelly is a more realistic transfer target for Tottenham than Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi in January.

Journalist Paolo Bargiggia said on TV Play’s La Domenica Esplosiva (as relayed by Sport Witness) recently that Tottenham are AC Milan’s main competitors for the Bournemouth centre-back.

Tottenham are set to reignite their interest in Kelly after missing out on the centre-back in the summer (GiveMeSport). The likes of Liverpool (Football Insider) and Arsenal (Tuttosport) are also said to be eyeing a move for the 25-year-old.

One more centre-back Spurs are being linked with is Marc Guehi. Daily Express reporter Ryan Taylor recently told the Spurs Chat Podcast that Tottenham Hotspur are not prepared to give up on their pursuit of Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.

GiveMeSport claimed last month that Guehi is one of four defenders on Tottenham’s shortlist alongside Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly, Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Ko Itakura.

Lloyd Kelly is more realistic than Marc Guehi

Speaking on The Tottenham Way Podcast, Tom Barclay has told Tottenham Hotspur that moving for Lloyd Kelly in January is more realistic than Marc Guehi.

He said: “My understanding is that at the moment if there’s a player to come in it’s likely to be a centre-back, there have been suggestions about Marc Guehi recently. He ticks a lot of boxes but would be an expensive option.

“I see Romero and Van de Ven being the long-term pairing for the Ange Postecoglou era, so I can’t see that one personally. I’d be surprised on that one personally, but someone like Lloyd Kelly at Bournemouth who can also play at left-back makes a bit more sense.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Whilst Marc Guehi is definitely talented, he is likely to cost the club a fortune. Spurs are unlikely to get into a bidding war for the player. As of today, the Cobham graduate seems very unrealistic.

Lloyd Kelly is someone we pursued before on deadline day though. He would definitely be more attainable than Guehi in January. It might be a wiser choice to go for him, considering Romero and Van de Ven are likely to be first-choice when fit.
