Journalist thinks Spurs could listen to offers for defender Paratici signed this summer

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur may be open to selling Emerson Royal in the summer, just a year after they signed the right-back.

Tottenham paid a fee of £25.8m plus £4.3m in add-ons to snap up Emerson from Barcelona during last summer’s transfer window (The Athletic).

The 23-year-old did show some promise during his first couple of months at the club but he has so far failed to adapt to the right wing-back role in Antonio Conte’s system.

Conte has only had encouraging words to say about Emerson publicly, with the Spurs boss even praising the right-back earlier this month following his side’s 3-1 win over Brighton in the FA Cup (Football London).

However, the Italian dropped the former Real Betis man from the starting eleven for Tottenham’s clash against Wolves on Sunday, choosing to give Matt Doherty the nod instead.

Unless Emerson improves over the next few months, Jones believes the right-back’s time at Spurs could be cut short.

The journalist told GiveMeSport regarding the Brazilian: “I can see a scenario where Tottenham would be willing to listen to offers at the end of the season, if it carries on like this.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While I believe Emerson would be a decent option as a right-back in a back four, I simply do not think he has the attributes to adapt to playing as a wing-back. Given that Conte is unlikely to change his tried and system, I would expect Spurs to listen to offers for the Brazilian in the summer.
