Journalist thinks Spurs might actually be on the right track in manager hunt 

Journalist Paul Brown has said that even though Spurs fans might be underwhelmed by the club’s managerial appointment, going for an up-and-coming candidate over an established name would be the right way to go for the North London club.

Tottenham have now pulled out of the race for Julian Nagelsmann, with the Lilywhites allegedly communicating a few days ago that the German is not the right fit for the club (Evening Standard).

The fact that the club have done this after seemingly passing up on the opportunity to sign Mauricio Pochettino, who is now on the verge of joining Chelsea (Sky Sports), has understandably not gone down well with the Spurs fan base.

The Daily Mail claimed last Friday that following Tottenham’s decision on Nagelsmann, the likes of Arne Slot, Luis Enrique and Roberto De Zerbi have emerged as potential alternatives.

It has been suggested by other outlets that Bayer Leverkusen boss Xavi Alonso and Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim are also in contention for the job (Evening Standard).

Brown believes that while Tottenham fans might not be happy with the aforementioned names, such an appointment might be a smarter decision than going after another big name.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I have a feeling that whoever ends up at Tottenham is going to feel like an underwhelming appointment to the fans, because they’ve been through several, high-profile, big-name managers now.

“I actually think if they find the right candidate, which is not easy, it might be the right way to go.”

I am not particularly outraged (as some fans seem to be) that we are no longer after Nagelsmann.

In reality, getting a big-name manager would not be a guarantee of success, which was proven by Conte’s struggles.

What disappoints me is the fact that the club have chosen not to approach Pochettino, who would have clearly wanted the job and exactly fits the profile of head coach we are seemingly after.

We might never truly know why the club decided against approaching Pochettino but I fear that the Argentine will rub it in Levy’s face by making Chelsea a force to contend with over the next couple of years.
