Journalist thinks Spurs would be interested Manchester United player this summer

ESPN journalist, Julien Laurens has backed Tottenham to make an approach for Manchester United forward Anthony Martial this summer.

With a major question mark surrounding the future of Harry Kane, Tottenham may need considerable attacking reinforcements this summer should they lose their star striker.

Reports have indicated that Spurs could land Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling as part of a potential Kane deal while the North Londoners are also said to be eyeing Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlaholvic as a replacement for the England captain.

Laurens has now indicated that Tottenham could make a move for Martial, who has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old was linked with a move to Spurs back in 2018 when Jose Mourinho was in charge at United but the transfer did not materialise.

Laurens has revealed that Spurs also tried to sign the French international from Monaco before he joined the Red Devils, and backed the North London club to reignite their interest in the forward this summer.

The journalist told ESPN FC: “There is the Anthony Martial situation. He would want to stay at the club but he knows it’s quite unlikely he will play a lot next season between [Edinson] Cavani, [Mason] Greenwood and [Marcus] Rashford. I’m not sure where he stands in the pecking order.

“There will be a lot of clubs after him. Spurs were close to signing him before he made the big move to Manchester United from Monaco five years ago.

“I think Spurs would be interested in signing him because he will be much cheaper than what Manchester United paid for him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I was previously a huge fan of Martial and would have loved to have him at Spurs a couple of years ago. However, the Frenchman’s development has clearly stagnated over the last 12 months and there are some question marks over the forward’s attitude, which is why I am not overly enthused about the idea of signing him now.
