Journalist thinks star player ‘didn’t see eye-to-eye’ with Conte at Tottenham

Pete O’Rourke has claimed Tanguy Ndombele ‘didn’t see eye-to-eye’ with Antonio Conte and will more than likely leave Tottenham permanently this summer.

Ndombele, who is spending the second half of the campaign on loan at former side Lyon, struggled to break into contention under Conte.

The 25-year-old notched just one Premier League start after the Italian’s arrival (Transfermarkt), before returning to the club Spurs paid £53.8 million to for his services back in 2019 (BBC Sport).

While Ndombele’s opportunities have improved at Lyon, the Evening Standard report that the midfielder is expected to return to North London at the conclusion of his loan, with the French side unlikely to exercise the £54 million option to make his move permanent.

That decision could lead to a frosty reunion with Conte according to O’Rourke, who feels the pair were never on the same wavelength at Tottenham from the off.

He told GiveMeSport: “It seemed him and Conte didn’t see eye-to-eye, so they tried to rush through this January loan move back to Lyon, which was the only move they could do.

“In the summer it will give them maybe more time to explore and see if they can seek a permanent exit. It’ll all come down to price and what Spurs are looking for, but I’m sure there will be interested clubs and Lyon would love to make it permanent.”

It seems pretty unlikely that Ndombele won’t be a Spurs player by the start of next season, unless there is a drastic turnaround regarding his decision and whether Conte wants him in his plans.

It will be tough for Spurs to recoup the fee they paid for him, especially with his high wages, but they can definitely gain a decent amount back if they play their cards right.
