Journalist updates on possible Newcastle and Everton moves for Dele Alli

Jack Pitt-Brooke has claimed that Everton could shape up a move to sign Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli this month.

The 25-year-old has struggled to impress under the guidance of Antonio Conte having previously lost his place in the side during Nuno Espirito Santo’s brief tenure.

Alli has made just three appearances in the Premier League since the Italian’s arrival and, despite being handed a rare start in last Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Morecambe, he failed to make a strong claim for himself.

Reports have suggested Conte does not view Alli as part of his future plans at Spurs, with the club now allegedly considering formal offers for his transfer this month.

Newcastle have been credited with an interest in signing the midfielder as part of their plans to stave off the threat of relegation, but a concrete offer has not been made as of yet.

The Athletic’s Pitt-Brooke believes Spurs had been waiting for the Magpies to take Alli off their hands, but now hints Everton could make a late swoop at the end of January.

He told The View from the Lane podcast: “Spurs had been hoping for a while that Newcastle would want Dele this month, but I gather that’s not the case.

“It’s been suggested to me that maybe Everton are considering coming in for Dele towards the end of the month, but as far as I’m aware there’s been no movement on that.”

Spurs Web Opinion

A move away from Spurs does seem inevitable at this point for Alli, who just needs a fresh start to reset. Injuries haven’t helped his case, but he also hasn’t seized his opportunity to perform when given the chance. Everton could be a decent place for him to try and recover some of his best form, though.
