Journalist urges Spurs to go after 25-year-old after missing out on Luis Diaz

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Tottenham should pursue Raphinha in the summer after missing out on Luis Diaz, insisting that the Leeds winger possess a similar skillset to the Colombian.

Tottenham reportedly had agreed on a fee with Porto for the transfer of Diaz last month before Liverpool stepped in to steal the winger from under the North London club’s noses (The Athletic).

Antonio Conte’s men ended up snapping up Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus instead last month and it remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites will once again pursue a player of the Diaz mould in the summer.

O’Rourke believes that Raphinha would be a perfect fit for the Lilywhites, given his exploits at Elland Road. The Brazilian has been on fire for Marcelo Bielsa’s side this campaign, with nine goals in 22 Premier League appearances so far (Transfermarkt).

O’Rourke has urged Tottenham to pursue the winger if he does not put pen to paper on a new contract with Leeds.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Raphinha is similar to Diaz. He’s a match-winner who can create goals and score goals as well.

“I think if Leeds are unable to tie him down to a new contract or forced to sell him, Spurs should be right in there along with all those other top clubs.”

Raphinha certainly will not come cheap in the summer, given that he would still have two years left on his contract at the end of this season (Transfermarkt).

Spurs could also face plenty of competition from other Premier League clubs for the 25-year-old and we know that the North London club do not tend to get involved in bidding wars.
