Journalist warns Spurs fans of quiet deadline day – Another says ‘late name’ could emerge

Lyall Thomas has revealed on Sky Sports’ live transfer blog (at 12.09) that Tottenham are considering other targets as their pursuit of Leeds winger Dan James is unlikely to be successful.

The Daily Mail reported today that Tottenham have suffered a blow in their efforts to sign James, and the North Londoners could be set for a rather quiet deadline day if their attempts to sign the Wales international did not progress.

This has also been backed by The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick, who stated that the North London club are expecting the day to be quiet.

However, the journalist did add a caveat that statement by adding that one can never be sure, given Fabio Paratici’s habit of doing late deals.

According to Thomas, Tottenham have turned their attention to other attacking players as the James deal now looks ‘difficult’ to pull off. He revealed that Antonio Conte’s men are ‘considering their options’ and that another ‘late name’ may emerge.

I would not be too displeased if Spurs decide to keep hold of Bryan Gil rather than signing another attacker. The only negative with that is that the 21-year-old’s development will be better served if he went out on loan and played regular football.
