Rumoured Tottenham target Santiago Gimenez continues to come in for quite a bit of criticism for his recent performances, with journalist Valentijn Driessen being the latest to blast the centre-forward.
Gimenez was one of the most prolific strikers in European football over the course of 2023, with the Mexican breaking a few goalscoring records (AS).
It is that sort of form that brought him to the attention of the likes of Tottenham, with several outlets indicating ahead of January that the North London club saw him as the ideal option to fill Harry Kane’s shoes (The Mirror).
However, in the end, Feyenoord decided to keep the 22-year-old at De Kuip, with various outlets suggesting that the club preferred to cash in on their star man next summer rather than mid-season (David Ornstein – BBC Transfer Gossip Daily Podcast).

Santiago Gimenez coming under fire amid Spurs links
The Eredivisie club might already be regretting their choice as Gimenez has looked like a shadow of his former self over recent weeks, having now not found the back of the net in his last five outings.
Last week, journalist Maarten Wijffels criticised the striker’s body language, remarking that the player now looks like a ‘a pathetic pile of a man’ (Algemeen Dagblad via SoccerNews).
Driessen has now also not held back in his criticism of Gimenez, insisting that he would not even pay €5m for the Mexican at the moment.
The journalist told De Telegraaf about the Feyenoord star: “He is not worth 50 million euros. (50 million euros) is the value they think they will sell him for. If you watch him now, I would not pay five million euros for him.”

It is alarming Gimenez can have such a substantial drop-off in such a short duration of time. Perhaps the 22-year-old had his heart set on a big move in January and his head is now elsewhere after Feyenoord blocked the transfer.
Something quite similar happened to Harry Kane at the start of the 2021-22 season following his failed move to Manchester City.
