Journalist would be surprised if 26-year-old left Inter Milan for Tottenham

Journalist Dean Jones has revealed he would be surprised if Denzel Dumfries left Inter Milan to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Tottenham are expected to be in the market for a right wing-back during this summer’s transfer window, with the likes of Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence (Sun) and Tornio’s Wilfried Singo (Tuttosport) being mooted as targets for the North London club over recent weeks.

Dumfries is another name reportedly on the North London club’s radar, according to reports from Italy (Tuttosport – 21/04/22 as relayed by Sport Witness).

The Netherlands international has enjoyed an impressive first season at the San Siro following his move from PSV Eindhoven last summer, with five goals and seven assists across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

Journalist Ekrem Konur claimed last week that Spurs could launch an opening offer for the 26-year-old, who is valued by Inter at around €40m (£33.7m).

However, Jones has insisted that Dumfries would likely not be tempted to leave the Nerazzurri just 12 months on from arriving at the club.

When asked about Tottenham’s interest in the Inter star, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “He scored a massive goal for them last weekend. From what I can tell, he seems happy with where he is, and he’s new to the club.

“It would be surprising to see him turn his back on Inter so quickly and seek a new challenge.

“Maybe the Conte factor would be enough to do that, but I still think it would take a big sales pitch to get Dumfries at this stage to join a Tottenham team who aren’t as good as Inter Milan are.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Dumfries might not push for a move, Inter would need to sell some players to raise funds for their targets. So, they might consider a decent offer for the 26-year-old. While the Netherlands international would undoubtedly be an upgrade over Emerson Royal, I believe there are better options in the market for Spurs.
