The Sun’s Martin Lipton has said that he would not be surprised if Ange Postcoglou decides to move Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on this summer.
Multiple publications, including The Times, have reported over the last 24 hours that one of Postecoglou‘s first tasks at Tottenham is to oversee a mass clear-out.
The report explained that the Spurs squad is now extremely bloated, with 33 first-team players on their books.
The Australian coach apparently may have to move on as many as 17 players in order to have a manageable squad, particularly since the Lilywhites do not have European competitions to worry about next season.
The outlet named Hugo Lloris, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon, Davinson Sánchez and Japhet Tanganga among the players who could be on their way out of Hotspur Way.
Lipton has now predicted that Hojbjerg could also be part of the list of players who are asked to pack their bags by Postecoglou.
The journalist told Off the Ball: “They (Spurs) still have the lowest wage-to-revenue ratio in the league, but they do need to get rid of some players.
“Sanchez, and maybe one of the midfielders, I wouldn’t be shocked if Hojbjerg went because I think Bissouma and Bentancur could be the first-choice duo.
“I think Tanganga goes, Perisic goes and there’s a few to get rid of.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Hojbjerg’s passing is quite inconsistent and he does not quite have the technical quality to handle the ball in tight areas, which midfielders would need to do in Postecoglou’s system.
So, I do not see the Dane being a regular in the lineup next season even if he ends up staying.
