Journalists reveals whether Carlos Vinicius could be ready to face Man Utd for Spurs

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that new Tottenham signing Carlos Vinicius is not expected to be available to feature for the Lilywhites in their all-important clash against Manchester United this Sunday due to the fact that details about his work permit still need to be finalised.

Benfica have officially confirmed that the Brazilian will be joining Tottenham on a season-long loan deal, with the North Londoners having the option to make the deal permanent for €45million (£40.38m) at the end of the season.

Gold has now revealed that Vinicius is the striker who was Jose Mourinho’s number one striker target since the transfer window opened.

He claimed that Benfica initially demanded €50million for the striker, which put him out of Spurs’ price range but the Portuguese club changed their stance after they failed to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League.

Gold reveals that the process of securing Vinicius his work permit could spill into Monday, with the non-working weekend getting in the way.

So the striker is not expected to be in the squad for the trip to Old Trafford, although he will be able to start training with his Tottenham team-mates soon.

The journalist suggests that the striker is set to be put through the paces at Hotspur Way during the international break, alongside the likes of Gareth Bale, in order to build his match fitness.

I, like some fans, was getting pretty impatient with our failure to get a deal for a striker over the line, even though we have had a decent transfer window up until this point. However, it was more important to get the right sort of player in rather than just getting a deal across the line quickly.

Going by multiple reports which have suggested that Vinicius was the one Mourinho really wanted, it looks like the wait was certainly worth it. He should not bee too far away from match fitness given that he has already been involved off the bench in some competitive games for Benfica so far this season.
