Jurgen Klopp claims Mourinho has turned Spurs into ‘a results-machine’

Jurgen Klopp has praised Jose Mourinho ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Anfield, insisting that the Spurs boss has turned his side into “a results-machine”.

Mourinho was at the receiving end of quite a lot of criticism last season, with some pundits alleging that the Portuguese coach was past his best.

However, the Tottenham boss has proved his critics wrong this season as his side currently sit at the summit of the league table.

The 57-year-old has employed a similar blueprint at Spurs to the one that has brought him success previously in his career, with the Lilywhites’ improved performances being built on defensive solidity and exploiting opportunities on the counter-attack.

Tottenham have proven with their recent results against the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea that they are to be taken seriously in the title race and have shown a strong mentality that one may not have associated with Spurs sides of the past.

Klopp admitted that the current Tottenham side can win matches even when they are not at their best.

The Liverpool boss said in his pre-match press conference (via Liverpool Echo’s Paul Gorst): “He (Mourinho) showed obviously he can come back if it was that.

“Very impressive what he has done at Spurs. The way they play this year is really good.

“He turned them into a results-machine. Performances, if not at best, they still win, defend collectively.”

Reading between the lines, this actually seems like a veiled criticism from Klopp of Tottenham and Jose Mourinho. The fact that he said last week that Chelsea were the favourites for the title suggests that he does not think we have a shot of winning the title if we continue playing the way we are. It will certainly be very sweet if we were to get one over his side tomorrow.
