Jurgen Klopp has his say on game between Spurs and Liverpool – How football should look

Tottenham Hotspur were well beaten by the league leaders Liverpool this evening, on the pitch if not on the overall scoreline.

The Lilywhites had Liverpool pegged back inside the first minute as roles were reversed from the Champions League Final back in June.

Heung Min Son’s deflected shot hit the bar and Kane tucked home the rebound expertly with his head to give Spurs an early lead.

However, unlike the Champions League Final, Spurs were unable to round off their performance with a second goal, despite Sonny coming close by hitting the bar.

Liverpool’s pressure eventually paid as they scored through Jordan Henderson, before Serge Aurier handed Salah a penalty to win the game.

Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for the game itself as he claimed it was exciting to watch his side play a strong and organised team that could catch you on the break at any point.

Klopp said (Football London): “We expected Tottenham to be very compact, aggressive and chasing us. We lost the ball in midfield and they counter-attacked. It was a bit unlucky. I expected it though. I loved the game. It was a super game, how football should look. Playing against a really strong, organised side knowing that every attack could arrive back at your own goal.

“Our counter-press was excellent. It really had to be today. We tried to adapt in a few situations. They set a few traps for us in their possession and they had a big chance with a big long kick and Dejan thought he could let it bounce but he couldn’t. Lucky enough for us that Son hit the crossbar. What a game their goalkeeper had.”
