Jurgen Klopp makes curious Tottenham comment after Liverpool loss

Jurgen Klopp has surprisingly suggested that Liverpool’s Champions League qualification is still not assured and that Tottenham could catch them.

Liverpool’s 2-0 loss against Everton in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday has come as a body blow to their hopes of winning the title.

Although the Reds are still in touching distance of Arsenal at the top, both the Gunners and Manchester City look unlikely to drop too many points until the end of the season.

Liverpool will now be hoping for Tottenham to do them a couple of favours, with the Lilywhites hosting Arsenal this Sunday and set to welcome Manchester City to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the penultimate game of the season.

Neither City nor Arsenal have a great record at Spurs’ stadium and Klopp will be hoping that Ange Postecoglou’s men are able to get results in those matches.

Jurgen Klopp is worried Spurs could catch Liverpool

However, curiously, the German has now suggested that Tottenham could potentially catch his side and qualify for the Champions League at their expense.

After his side’s loss at Goodison Park, the Liverpool boss said on BBC Match of the Day: “We need them to lose games and historically they don’t do that. Arsenal didn’t look very weak last night. We have to play better, that is it.

“We need points. We are not safe in the Champions League. Tottenham have played a lot of games less than us.”

I do not think either Villa or Tottenham are going to catch Liverpool unless the Reds have an unbelievable collapse in the next four matches. The race for fourth place is between Villa and Spurs, with the Midlands club currently in the driver’s seat.
