Jurgen Klopp praises two Tottenham players after Liverpool game

Tottenham Hotspur may have been defeated by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool yesterday evening, but the Reds boss had nice things to say about both Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski.

Spurs went into the game in good form, having come off the back of two dramatic wins against Bournemouth in the Premier League and Marseille in the Champions League.

Liverpool meanwhile, had not won an away game in the league all season and were struggling for form after defeats against Nottingham Forest and Leeds United in recent weeks.

As much as the odds appeared to be stacked in the favour of a home win for Tottenham, injury concerns left the Lilywhites with plenty of changes to make to their starting line-up.

With Heung-min Son and Richarlison still out, and Dejan Kulusevski only returning to the bench, it was up to Ivan Perisic to lead the line alongside Harry Kane.

Spurs succumbed to a 2-1 defeat, with the battle lost in the first half thanks to two Mohamed Salah goals. Antonio Conte’s men did pull one goal back in the second half as Kulusevski came on and provided an instant assist for Harry Kane.

Speaking to Premier League Productions (06/11/22 at 7:00 pm), Klopp was full of praise for the attacking duo. He said: “I’m fine (with Tottenham coming back). For me, it’s important to judge the body language of the players. I really thought they were outstanding, at this moment.”

“Okay, it’s a big blow and an unnecessary goal. It was a great pass and Kulusevski comes on, then here we go. It’s difficult to defend.

“Harry scored it?! Harry is outstanding in these moments, so that’s really tricky. But you have to defend. You have to defend half-spaces and the wings. That was a bit of a problem.”

A disappointing result was made a little less frustrating by the return of Dejan Kulusevski, and he very quickly reminded us all what we have been missing. Hopefully, he and Harry Kane can recapture their link-up play and add more bite to the Spurs attack than we’ve seen in recent weeks.
