‘Just be calm’ – Alasdair Gold reveals update on Djed Spence amidst lack of game time

Tottenham Hotspur right-wing-back Djed Spence has no intention to leave the club on loan this summer, according to Alasdair Gold.

Tottenham signed Spence from Middlesbrough this summer in a deal worth up to £ 20 million (Sky Sports). He has penned a five-year contract with the club after enjoying a great loan spell with Nottingham Forest in the previous campaign.

Despite that, the English defender has failed to make it into the matchday squad for the last two Premier League matches, with Emerson Royal starting and Matt Doherty warming the bench.

That has led to some concern within the fanbase, especially after Conte revealed Spence was a club signing rather than one of his own (Evening Standard).

Despite the current circumstances, Gold has revealed that Spence does not intend to move out temporarily, even with the lack of immediate game time. The Football.London journalist expressed how the 22-year-old understands the situation and is willing to fight for chances.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Gold said: “With Spence, he’s a very young guy, and we should just be calm. I was speaking to people around him again this week and there’s no desire to go on loan or anything like that.

“I don’t know if he could even go to another English club, he’d have to go abroad, but there’s no desire to do that. Spence knows what he wants and he understands exactly which stage he is at currently.

“He knows for a wing-back under Conte’s system, he’s got to be very different to a wing-back in most other teams. He knows exactly what he got himself into at Tottenham.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

There is no need to worry about the current situation as Conte himself admitted how he gave his approval for the North Londoners to sign Spence. His lack of minutes is more or less down to the need to adapt to the requirements of top-flight football.

Conte did claim it is down to the players to convince him to give him a starting spot (Football.London). The boss mentioned that he does not have any headaches about having three wing-backs on the right-hand side of the defence as of now.
