Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to social media to urge the club to finally sort out a new contract for Toby Alderweireld.
The central defender was impressive during Belgium’s 2-1 quarter-final win against Brazil in the World Cup this evening.
Alderweireld currently earns £50,000-a-week at the north London club and is said to be refusing to budge on his £150,000-a-week wage demands. The club reportedly made a final offer of £110,000-a-week, but the defender turned it down.
His current deal expires in 2019, but the club have an option to extend it by a further year. However, activating that option would trigger a paltry £25m release clause for the Belgian that can be activated before the final two weeks of the 2019 summer transfer window.
After Kane signed a bumper £200,000-a-week, six-year contract extension we really do need to try and do the same for Toby.
