‘Just keep going’ – Spurs star receives kind message from football legend Pele

Tottenham Hotspur’s Richarlison has received supportive messages on Instagram from his club teammate Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Brazil legend Pele after his side crashed out of the World Cup on Friday.

Brazil were considered one of the favourites to lift the World Cup going into the tournament, and had put in some impressive displays on their way to the quarter-finals in Qatar.

Richarlison in particular had caught the eye, scoring three goals in the competition (Transfermarkt), two of which could well be rated the best goals of the World Cup this year.

The South American side eventually fell to defeat at the hands of Croatia after a penalty shoot-out on Friday afternoon.

A goalless 90 minutes went to extra time, where Neymar had given Brazil the lead after 106 minutes. Croatia left it late, but a Bruno Petkovic goal after 117 minutes took the tie to the dreaded shootout, where the European side came out on top.

Richarlison was already off the field by that point, having been replaced with six minutes of the regulation 90 to go. It was a painful exit from the tournament for the 25-year-old, who took to social media with an emotional post, claiming he is unable to sleep after the defeat.

A look through the comments section reveals all kinds of positive messages for the Spurs attacker, though. His club teammate, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg commented: “Always head up, warrior. Still so much to achieve.”

Meanwhile, Brazilian legend Pele’s comment will surely lift Richarlison’s spirits. The 82-year-old said: “Just keep going, kid. And never change. You made Brazil smile.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Richarlison was arguably the stand-out performer for Brazil in this tournament, and while it’s a World Cup that ultimately ends in disappointment, he should hold his head high for his displays. That comment from Pele in particular must be a dream for Richarlison, and hopefully, he’s smiling again now, too.
