‘Just the beginning’ – Aston Villa player reacts to Spurs star’s CL heroics

The praise just doesn’t stop coming for Richarlison after his Champions League heroics in midweek, and even players from other clubs are getting involved now.

According to new Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos, this is ‘just the beginning’ for Richarlison’s exploits in Lilywhite.

Richarlison was the big money signing of the summer for Tottenham Hotspur, arriving for a fee of £50 million, which can potentially rise to £60 million with add-ons (Sky Sports).

He was signed with a view to providing competition and cover for the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, to ease the club’s reliance on the pair when it comes to goalscoring. With that in mind, Richarlison is already proving his worth.

With two assists in the Premier League so far (Transfermarkt), all that was left was for the Brazilian to bag his first goal for Spurs. He thought he had got that last weekend against Fulham, only for his late strike to be ruled out for offside.

The special moment was worth the wait though. In his first appearance on the European stage, Richarlison hit two brilliant headers to secure a 2-0 win over Marseille in the Champions League.

Having forced his way into the starting line-up with an impressive run of cameo appearances from the bench, it’s going to be very difficult for Antonio Conte to drop Richarlison now.

Buoyed by his first goals for Spurs, you’d think Richarlison will now be able to push on and have a successful season. According to Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos, that’s exactly what will happen.

In the comments section of Richarlison’s Instagram post after the game, fellow Brazilian Diego Carlos said (via Sky Sports) “This is just the beginning.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Before the season began, I wrote about how valuable Richarlison could be to Spurs. I’ll admit, I didn’t expect him to adapt this quickly, but that’s a testament to his work rate and passion for the game. He’s fantastic to watch, and hopefully, there are many, many more goals to come this season and beyond.
