Juventus confirm sale of midfielder to Tottenham

Juventus have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the sale of Rodrigo Bentancur.

The statement on the official website of the Serie A giants has revealed that the transfer fee is for an initial €19 million (£15 million) which is payable over a three-year period with a further €6 million (£5 million) in performance-related add-ons.

Bentancur’s former club Boca Juniors will receive around €4 million (£3.3 million) of the fee, due to a sell-on clause which was part of the agreement which took him to Italy.

Aston Villa were also reported to have been interested in the Uruguay international, having seen an offer of around £16.5m, with more than £4m in bonuses rejected by the Old Lady (Sky Sports).

Bentancur undertook his medical remotely from his homeland, with the player currently preparing to face Venezuela with his national team on Tuesday (Daily Mail).
